Teachers Share “What I’m Reading Now” – Great Fiction

By Teachers.Net Community

love booksBooks we’re loving!

From a recent thread on the main (general topics) chatboard:

Still Life With Murder, Winner Take All Politics, and Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth. Still Life is the
best of the three so far. I just finished reading A-W of the Kinsey Milhone Alphabet mysteries.  j.e.

Just beginning Stephen King’s 11/22/63. Needless to say, with 864 pages, it may take a while . . .Barb S.

I’m reading and LOVING Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl. Not a textbook, but fiction. Great story (coming of age?) and brilliant writing. Her more recent Night Film was popular but I like this one better. I’m listening to Thomas Pynchon’s Bleeding Edge and think it’s
terrific, too. Yum, books.  Judy5ca

I just finished Ford Madox Ford’s The Good Soldier and Alice Walker’s The Way Forward is with a Broken Heart. Also Portrait of a Novel: Henry James and the Making of an American Masterpiece. I’m about to read Falling Man, by Dom DeLillo. SP

Just finished Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy (reread The Year of the Flood and read Oryx and Crake and MaddAddam) and I’m 100 pages into Carol Rifka Brunt’s Tell the Wolves I’m Home. It’s very, very good so far. Gone Girl’s on my shelf and I can’t wait to get to it. Lulu

I’m 50-60 pages from finishing _And the Mountains Echoed_ (Khaled Hosseini – definitely his best so far, I think). I have a stack of books to choose from when I finish — I think one of them is a Scott Turow, which I’m looking forward to. I think it’s in Kindle County, but with a new main character. In fact, I think I’ll pour a other coffee and read for a while. Jme

Orphan Train Icecutter’s Daughter The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. mariep

The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSclafani. [anon]

Just finished “The Confessor” by Daniel Silva. Love, love his books. I’m buying them all (series with Gabriel Allon as the hero). But it is like eating chocolate, I must pace myself. Read one, then wait awhile, reading other things. I like the anticipation of knowing I’ll be reading another good book Bev

”Knocking on Heaven’s Door”‘ by Katy Butler. For a sneak preview. Google her name and New York Times. The article is called “What Broke my Father’s Heart.” Elaine

Game of a Thrones book 2 and Jo Nesbo’s The Bat. Both very good! Glenda W.

Okay, it’s going to be _The Hit_ , David Baldacci’s most recent. Don’t know whether I’ll start it tonight or in the morning. Jme

Just finished Gone Girl and starting And the Mountains echoed with transatlantic next… treetoad

The Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Craziest ending and not one I saw coming. The 9th Girl by Tami Hoag was good. AM
