BETTER TALKING (TEACHERS)

http://sayhired.com/bettertalking/

Here’s a unique site that’s great for teachers and students looking to practice their job interview skills. Once you sign up, you’re given a toll free number, and a prep job interview. You can then listen to your answers, share your answers or get feedback on how to answer tough questions.

WHERE DID COMMUNITY GO (TEACHERS, PARENTS, GR. 4-12)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1cE-qpKCiI

Where Did Community Go presents a simple and profound video message from the YMCA of Vancouver Canada through the voice of an elementary aged girl. Simple questions such as “Why are we inside more than ever and outside even less.” “We eat fast, but together less.” (Family dinners down 14 per cent.)I used this 1:01 minute video to give examples of persuasive arguments for my grade 5 students. It also served as a good discussion on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

EMBRACE LIFE (TEACHERS, PARENTS, GR. 3-UNIVERSITY)

http://www.sussexsaferroads.gov.uk/safer-for-all-drivers/embrace-life-seatbelt-campaign.html

Embrace Life is a campaign designed to remind individuals of the importance of wearing their seat belts supported by The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership. The campaign has become an Internet phenomenon, Embrace Life smashed through one millions views online in less than two weeks

As the summer approaches, and more of our students and families will be travelling by car on vacations, this video is a great reminder to “buckle up”!

NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA (TEACHERS)

http://www.nfb.ca/

http://nfb.ca/Watch hundreds of films online from the National Film Board of Canada. Enjoy documentaries, animations and alternative dramas on the web, on your personalized home page, or on your iPhone.

BITSTRIPS (TEACHERS, GR. 4-12)

http://www.bitstrips.com/

My grade 5 students really enjoy this site. It’s not hard to know why. Here’s a fast and easy way to get your reluctant readers and writers to draw comics and write story lines to go with them. A wonderful end of the year activitiy.
